Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs!

Wow! What a way to kick off their first topic! This week, every child in year 3 at Bourne Abbey and Bourne Elsea Park Primary Academies made meatballs and spaghetti… from scratch!

They slaved away for hours, finely slicing onions, snipping up coriander, beating eggs, sprinkling salt and pepper, sautéing onions and garlic, and simmering and straining spaghetti. But by far the most hilarious (and ever so slightly disgusting) job, was squishing all the ingredients (including the raw minced beef) together to create their perfect, bite-sized little spheres.

They learnt all about the bridge and claw cuts and how to stay germ free while cooking; and they even completed a thorough taste test evaluation while nibbling on their exquisite delights.  Miss Lorna Ockwell, Assistant Head and Year 3 Leader said “The children have made a fabulous start in Year 3.  As you can see it’s been incredibly busy already but the children and staff have loved every minute.”
