The staff and governors of Bourne Abbey C of E Primary Academy believe in a whole school approach to special needs, where staff, parents/carers and governors develop the greatest possible degree of partnership, by co-operating, collaborating and co-ordinating all that they do for the benefit of the children. We aim for every child to receive a broad and balanced curriculum with early identification of needs, well organised and individually structured programmes of work, regularly monitored and reviewed by staff and parents with purposeful involvement of the child concerned. All children participate in the full curriculum to the best of their ability. Learning experiences are closely matched to their needs. Homework is set at their level and is achievable. If a child has complex needs requiring complex arrangements they may undergo a Statutory Assessment Process which can be requested by the school, a parent/carer or other professionals. The application for an Education, Health and Care Plan will combine information from a variety of sources. A decision will be made by a group of people from education, health and social care about whether the child is eligible for an EHC Plan. Further information about EHC Plans can be found via the SEND Information Report.
