Year 6 were lucky enough to participate in a Roots to Food workshop this term. Darren, who ran the workshop, taught us about preparing healthy and nutritional meals. During the session, we learnt a range of vocabulary that linked to how we prepare food such as stir, peel, chop, season and fold. Darren taught us the importance of preparing food safely due to cross contamination and making sure we don’t hurt ourselves during the preparing process. We discussed the nutritional value of the food that was going to be in our meal and how long each ingredient should be cooked for to maintain the nutrition, vitamins and minerals our bodies need. We all took turns throughout the session to help prepare and develop our cooking skills through making ‘Chicken or Quorn Singapore Noodles’. At the end of the session, we all had the opportunity to try the meal we had prepared; we were all so surprised how much we enjoyed eating and tasting all of the flavours!
