        What’s inside a flower?

        Author: Kirstin Ross

Year 5 have been enjoying their science learning all about living things and their habitats! To gain a greater understanding of the different stages of a plant’s life cycle, including pollination and fertilisation, Year 5 pupils carefully dissected flowers, using hand lenses to look even closer. We were fascinated by the patterns we spotted in nature, including the number of petals and the number of stamen seen in each flower. We couldn’t believe it when we located the flower’s ovary and found lots of tiny eggs inside!
