Weaving & Flourishing Together: Bourne Abbey visit to the Cedars
On Monday 6th February the Collective Worship Council visited the Cedars care home once again bursting with ideas and activities to share with the residents and flourish together.
The Collective Worship Council planned and prepared their own worship together around the Christian Value of ‘Courage’. The children chose the Bible story of ‘Daniel and the Lion’ to read and act out as well as share the key message behind the story with the residents.
The council also recited our memory verse for this half of the term and asked the reflection question to the residents, “How have you had to show courage in your lives, like Daniel in the lion’s den?”
Our children aspired to make the worship inclusive to all, invitational by offering for those to join in to the act of worship if they wished and inspiring through their acting and props. The Collective Worship Council closed their worship by sharing bravery and courage prayers they had written themselves.
Following this, the children led an activity with the residents and all participated in the craft of ‘God’s eye weaving’, something everyone enjoyed! The children, of all ages from Year 1 through to 6, shared the activity and taught both themselves and the residents the art of weaving. The children explained that the sticks represented the cross that Jesus was crucified on and the pattern and the ‘eye’ in the centre represents the power of seeing and understanding things we cannot normally see. The children and residents designed and created their own ‘God’s eye’ pattern and saw all develop spiritually through enjoyable craft.
We look forward to visiting the Cedars residents once again in March with our Collective Worship Council.
