        Amazing and Mythical Creations!

        Author: Kirstin Ross

This week, children not attending Whitby let their imaginations come to life in a week packed with exploring their God given talents, digital exploration, and storytelling! The theme took the Year 6s on an intergalactic adventure, sparking excitement and creativity at every turn. They worked with clay, glass eyes, and a variety of tools to craft their very own alien or mythical creatures. Each child sculpted a unique character, expressing their ideas and personalities through these incredible creations, which were rich in detail and full of character. Watching their creatures come to life was inspiring, and Year 6 were thrilled to add final touches, such as expressive glass eyes that made their creations feel real!

After bringing their creatures to life, the children explored what kinds of worlds their creatures might inhabit. They designed imaginative planets and homes, full of vibrant details and fascinating ecosystems. Using augmented reality (AR), Year 6s went a step further, bringing their invented habitats into a 3D space they could explore- WOW!

The week also included creative writing, where each child developed a non-chronological report about their unique creature. The Year 6s thought critically about their mythical character’s background, habits, and environment. They put pen to paper with such enthusiasm, crafting detailed, unique and insightful reports that displayed not only their knowledge but also their wild imaginations!

We also celebrated the beauty of the season by creating autumn-inspired crafts, such as Autumnal wreaths and God’s eye weavings. Year 6 loved gathering colourful materials from nature, weaving textures, and experimenting with different patterns. We also had a film and snack afternoon, giving everyone a chance to relax and reflect on the incredible work they had done. Each child displayed boundless creativity, God given talents and expression, producing high-quality crafts and developed valuable skills. We are so proud of all of their creations!
