Our bespoke history curriculum has been carefully crafted by our history team to reflect both national and local historical significance, with a special focus on the rich history of Bourne. Across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, children explore various units that bring Bourne’s past to life, from local figures to significant events and places that have shaped our community. Did you know that Bourne used to have a castle!

We believe that hands-on experiences are essential to deepening our children’s understanding of history. Our curriculum includes exciting opportunities for visits to local Victorian workhouses and interactive sessions with theatre groups, allowing children to immerse themselves in different historical perspectives. These experiences help bring history to life and foster a deeper connection to the past.

Throughout all units, a wide variety of historical sources are threaded into the curriculum, from artefacts and documents to oral histories and photographs. By engaging with these diverse materials, children learn to think critically and develop the skills to analyse the past like historians, gaining a well-rounded understanding of the world they live in.
