Learning is:
Driven by our vision for all children to flourish, we have developed a curriculum that allows our pupils to gain knowledge over time in meaningful contexts. Core knowledge, language, and skills are revisited, supporting children to embed their understanding and move from chunks of information to a cohesive scheme of knowledge and deep conceptual learning. This curriculum has been crafted through academic reading and research, training, subject specialist advice, and the dedication of committed subject teams, ensuring it effectively supports long-term memory change.
A key feature of many subjects studied is the inclusion of Big Ideas—core concepts that thread through the entire subject. These Big Ideas are relevant across all year groups and are delivered through various topics and contexts throughout the school. Pupils continually return to these key concepts in each lesson, allowing them to see the subject as a whole, regardless of the specific context being studied. This allows children to make meaningful links between information, supporting the movement from information to knowledge and learning.
Additionally, intentional opportunities have been mapped across the curriculum to ensure that pupils are well-equipped for life in a diverse Britain, fostering mutual respect and tolerance. The curriculum also incorporates explicit opportunities for spiritual development, allowing children to reflect on and engage with deeper, more meaningful aspects of their learning and personal growth.
Progression is mapped across school in each subject.
