On Tuesday 1st November, 402 pupils from twelve schools from across the region came together on a sunny and fresh day to enjoy cross country races at Spalding Grammar School.
The competitive races took place between teams for Y5/6 Boys, Y5/6 Girls, Y3/4 Boys and Y3/4 Girls. Schools could enter teams of ten runners and the first five for each team scored for their School.
Bourne Abbey runners had a fantastic morning competing energetically in all the races. After a comprehensive warmup, the children enthusiastically waited on the start for their race to begin. In the Year 5 and 6 boys race, Stanley (Y6) ran amazingly to finish an impressive and close second place. Ryan (Y6) sprinted down the last 200m to take 6th place. In the Year 5 and 6 girls race, Olivia (Y5) ran incredibly against some strong Year 6 runners and took 8th place. The Year 3 and 4 boys race was dominated by Henry, who led tremendously from the start and crossed the line with a sprint finish to take 1st place. Maddie (Y4) ran a superb race in the Year 3 and 4 girls race to take 10th place.
In the team races, Bourne Abbey were dominant in the Year 5 and 6 boys category, taking 1st place against 10 other schools. Both the Year 3 and 4 girls and boys team placed 3rd edged out in closely by only a few points. The Year 5 and 6 girls team were edged out into 4th place in a close team contest.
A massive well done to all involved – we are so proud of you.
